Concord senior Janaye Acosta is our Michiana High School Student of the Month for November.
Redeemer Radio’s Student of the month, presented by St. Joseph Health System, recognizes students who excel in the classroom, show a strong Catholic faith, and are involved in extracurricular activities at school or in the community. Janaye is a parishioner at St. John’s the Evangelist in Goshen. She’s also a member of the Color Guard in Concord’s award-winning marching band and is a dancer & teacher at Music and Dance Academy in Elkhart.
Janaye has been a dancer since she was six and says it is a form of prayer for her.
“It’s become a great way to express my feelings not only through my passions, but I will often use it to express my feelings toward God,” Janaye says of her dance performances. “It’s also a good stress reliever for me, almost like giving it up to God in a way.”
Janaye says she had a low in her faith while a freshman in high school but being a member of the St. John’s high school youth group allowed her to reconnect and grow stronger in her faith once again. She tells us she’s a big fan of Fr. Jose’s Tik Tok videos and gives him great credit for finding ways to connect with the younger generation.
“It’s just so cool to see him use that platform for good,” Janaye explains.
Be sure to check out our interview with Janaye from our morning show, the Daily Refill.
The Student of the Month interview airs between 7:30-8am on the 1st Wednesday of each month. To nominate a Student of the Month, go to redeemerradio.com/student and fill out the form.
